PowerSmart PSS2240-X

Features
  • Size: 33 x 26 x 26 inches
  • Weight: 160 lbs.
  • Power type: gas
  • Output: 196cc
  • Warranty: 2 years

More features: 4-cycle engine; 6-forward and 2-backward speed variations; adjustable; push-button start

PowerSmart PSS2240-X is an excellent 24-inch snowblower for people living in regions receiving heavy snowfall. The machine boasts features such as 20-inch clearing depth, 13-inch deep tread inflatable tires, six forward and two backward speed variations, and a push-button electric start. Besides, you could use its manual starter if you like. Its dual-trigger steering and 180-degrees chute rotation allow smooth snow-blowing control.

Moreover, it features adjustable metal skid shoes for better usage on different surfaces. When it comes to its design, the machine feels stable, sturdy, and ergonomic. Putting it together is a breeze if you read the instruction before attempting anything. The 212cc is a powerful engine with a throwing capacity of 40 feet – be careful not to throw snow into your neighbor’s driveway or compound.

What we liked: It’s a fantastic product with a decent delivery. The engine cranks up quickly after priming it. Ensure you check the oil (it doesn’t come with it) before starting it. It’s a massive and very stable blower that doesn’t topple over. While the blower is solemn, still a minor can clear the snow with ease. Its reliability is excellent and clears snow with great effectiveness at a lower cost. The blower is perfect for an average size person.

What could be better: Its maneuverability is quite a problem. Besides, the reverse function can be disappointing at times, making it better to pull backward instead of reverse gear. Lacks adjustable throttle, and the chute is hard to adjust. All in all, PowerSmart PSS2240-X is a lovely 24 snowblower and budget-friendly.

High Snow Throwing Capability

Ariens ST24LE Deluxe

Features
  • Size: 55 x 27 x 44 inches
  • Weight: not specified
  • Power type: gas
  • Output: 254cc
  • Warranty: not specified

More features: two stages; auto-turn steering technology

The ST24LE Deluxe model is an excellent snowblower for anyone looking for a unit to use for their home. Ariens is known for its high-quality snowblower machines, and it’s no different from the 24″ Deluxe. It’s a high-quality machine with a powerful engine that’s perfect for home driveways. The unit starts easy and blows snow a long way. If you’ve used the previous models, you’ll notice Ariens made adjustments to the axle to fix machine balance.

Furthermore, the engine provides a perfect level of energy enough to move heavy snow. Its controls are almost excellent, and it’s quick to learn how to use them. Along with those elements, its drive system features large tires that provide enough traction. When it comes to snow throwing capability, the unit not only throws effectively but also allows easy control over the distance you’d like to throw.

What we liked: The unit is excellent for home use. Its electric start is exciting and straightforward to use. Besides, the pull start is convenient, and only one pull is enough to fire up the engine. What’s more, the snowblower cuts through any type of snow easily and has a decent throwing capability. It comes mostly assembled, and you’re left with a few parts, such as the handle to put together. Also, note that the company provides liftgate delivery.

What could be better: You must drain the tank and carburetor before storing the unit for an extended period. Some people might find the chute swing control system quite challenging to reach due to its location. The auto-turn steering is a bit lacking, especially when the auger encounters friction, making it a lot of work to control left and right lunging.

Best Value

Snow Joe iON8024-XR

Features
  • Size: 47 x 25.7 x 40 inches
  • Weight: 105.8 lbs.
  • Power type: brushless motor
  • Output: 80V 2500W
  • Warranty: 2 years

More features: four speeds; headlights; two-stage; self-propelled; LED illuminated display; thumb control; rechargeable

If you don’t want anything to do with gas-powered snowblowers, then you might want to check out the Snow Joe iON8024-XR. It’s a two-stage self-propelled snowblower kit with exciting features. First, it’s cordless and features a rechargeable 80-volt power plant consisting of two 40-volt batteries. Second, its powerful 2500 W brushless motor can plow through up to 1000 pounds of snow.

Third, it has a sturdy serrated steel auger and a heavy-duty impeller. Lastly, the unit is capable of cutting through 13-inches deep in a single pass. Along with the above features, Snow Joe iON8024-XR boasts a decent digital display for ergonomic operation. Its four-speed digital drive system makes it one of the best 24 snowblowers with a drive system.

What we liked: There’s a significant improvement in this unit when compared with the previous models. First, its performance is much improved. The inclusion of a reverse gear is a plus. What’s more, the chute is motorized. The drive and plow buttons are moved on top of the handles for convenience. Battery level indicators show you how much charge is left. It’s straightforward to use and maintain the unit. Furthermore, the headlights are bright and adjustable, the tires have excellent grip, and the machine handles deep snow pretty well. Lastly, the unit will notify you when you’re at the wrong speed.

What could be better: The batteries take time to recharge, so you must plan well. Also, we noticed that the battery charger needs some work – they behave strangely. That Xport speed feature is somehow irrelevant. It’s tough to press the switch to rotate the chute; that, too, needs some work. While this unit is not perfect, it’s great and gets the job done.

Things to Consider

Not all 24-inch snowblowers are built the same. Deciding on which to buy can be a daunting task. For instance, choosing between a gas-powered and battery/electrically powered unit might seem a no brainer until you’re faced with the real job to decide. However, knowing your immediate needs beforehand is an important thing that will save you from big trouble. We’ve, therefore, put together a detailed buying guide to help you make informed decisions. Check below for essential things to consider before buying a snowblower.

Advantages of a 24-inch snowblower

24-inch clearing width snowblowers have advantages that might interest you. They include the following.

  • The first obvious benefit is time-saving. You’ll save a lot of time by getting the snow out of the driveway or walkway in no time
  • Next, a 24-inch snow blower is straightforward to use and easy to maintain
  • They’re portable and ideal for most homeowners
  • 24-inch snowblowers boast excellent features that make them high performers and a breeze to use
  • It’s healthy to use them since you won’t suffer backaches, sore hands, and painful shoulders instead of shoveling
  • They’re durable units and worth their prices
  • 24-inch snowblowers are ergonomic, powerful and perform well in harsh weather conditions

Features to consider before you buy a 24-inch snowblower

Knowing the critical elements to consider before purchasing a snowblower will not only save you time but also help you buy a unit that best fits your interests. Regarding size, weight, power type, output, and warranty as essential elements will be instrumental. Let’s look at them in detail below.

Size

Size is an essential element to consider due to several factors. The first thing you should look into when deciding on a size is how and where you’ll store your snowblower when not in use. Easy storage should be your point of concern.

Note that size here refers to the total dimension of the unit and not it’s clearing width. Also, size does not necessarily dictate the weight of the unit. However, larger units tend to weigh quite more.

That said, the other thing to consider is the primary person going to operate the machine. The unit’s size, especially its height, should be at least proportional to the operator’s height. Otherwise, expect control issues and back pains. However, understand that most of these machines have several handle heights levels to suit different people. For instance, the Husqvarna ST324 is a big unit but features an adjustable handle for convenience.

Weight

Many people tend to ignore weight as a feature because it has no significant effect on snow clearing activity. While these machines are power-driven, their weight is having a substantial impact on the operator. Before you decide on weight, consider the following: Where you live – are there hills to climb with the machine? What’s the nature of the snow you intend to clear? How much weight can you comfortably handle? Finally, how and where will you store the snowblower after use? Answering the questions above will enable you to choose the right weight for you. You don’t want a heavy blower if there are hills to climb. On the contrary, you might want a heavy unit if the type of snow you’ll be clearing is severe. Snow Joe iON8024-XR is the lightweight on our list, weighing just 105.8 lbs. If you want a big boy, then check out the Husqvarna ST324.

7 Best 24-Inch Snow Blowers - Easy to Use and Maneuver!

Power type

The next crucial factor to consider is the power type. Two types exist – gas and electric/battery powered. How do you decide on power type? Here are a few questions to ponder: what’s the size of the area you want to clear? How far is the place from power outlets? How thick is the snow? Finally, what’s the type of snow you want to blow out? While both snowblowers can handle the thickest snow, gas-powered units are superior to battery-powered when it comes to performance. However, battery-powered is ideal for small areas; they’re not noisier and have excellent maneuverability.

Gas snowblowers, on the other hand, are great for large areas far from power outlets.

Electric units are easy to maintain and do not emit exhaust pollutants. All in all, both machines are great. If you’re looking for an electric blower, then the Snow Joe iON8024-XR might be ideal for you.

Output

The amount of work you’d like to do with your snowblower should determine your output choice. Note that there’s a difference between horsepower and an engine’s cubic centimeters (cc). However, the higher the cc, the greater the horsepower. So, if you want a powerful snowblower, then go for one with a high output.

The best way to decide on the output is by considering the type and depth of snow you want to clear and the size and nature of the area.

All these boil down to one thing – the amount of work to handle. Husqvarna ST324 or Ariens ST24LE Deluxe is probably an ideal machine for anyone looking for one with a high-capacity engine.

Warranty

Warranty is also a critical element to consider before buying a snowblower. The best 24-inch snowblowers will always have decent warranties attached to them. A warranty is a sure way to tell you that whatever you’re about to purchase is trustworthy. Manufacturers who believe in their products always give at least a one-year warranty. However, not all warranties determine the credibility of a unit. Some might have long warranty windows but still, be low quality. Note that some manufacturers such as Poulan Pro PR241 give different parts specific warranties – such as the engine and the entire unit. We advise you to read carefully through the warranty terms and understand to avoid voiding them.

FAQ

Can you use such a snow blower if you have a chronic backache?

What’s more, they’re powerful and efficient; thus, very little strength is needed to operate them. Besides, even the old folks can use them with a lot of ease to clear their driveway. One benefit of these snowblowers is their health cautious; hence you can use it if you have a chronic backache.

How do you store a snowblower safely?

There’s no specific way to store a snowblower. However, it is advisable always to read the manufacturer’s user manual to maintain and keep your machine. For instance, a general rule for most is to drain all the gas before storing them for many days to come. Also, consider covering the unit properly and storing it in a dry facility.

Can anyone tell me what’s the max depth of snow these snow blowers can handle?

avatar
Jessie Oconnell

It depends. They’re mostly 2-stage, so I guess up to 12-13 inches.

avatar
Titus Mahoney

I just got PowerSmart snow blower, but I was wondering what oil I should use. Please help!

avatar
Brian M.

The manual says 5W-30 4-stroke engine oil. You should make sure they are API classified SJ, SL, or SM. Synthetic oils would work.

Do 24-inch snow blowers work on gravel roads?

avatar
First Mate211

It’s not generally recommended to use snowblowers on gravel roads. If you still intend to, you’ll have to adjust the skid shoes just right so they don’t pick up rocks. Otherwise, it will be dangerous for both the machine and yourself.

Hadassah Reilly

No they don’t

It’s the second winter season that I use Ariens ST24LE Deluxe. My impressions are mostly positive. The 254cc engine provides good power for pushing snow. I am still getting used to the controls, but they work. The only downside is that the chute control moves over the other controls on the console and it can be hard to reach at my height. The large tires gave me plenty of traction going forward and in reverse so I was able to move through deep snow. The machine allows to throw snow as far as I want or as close as possible. Electric start is a great feature as well. Started right away. I’ve only had to pull start it once. The negative about this snow thrower is that I had troubles with maneuvering while going forward.

avatar
Kaitlin Oneal

I’ve heard about belt problems that some Husqvarna snow throwers have. Does this ST324 too?

avatar
Harley Sheppard

I’ve had it for a year and no issues so far. Have no idea

avatar
Rumplestiltskin

They claim that they have rectified those belt problems, and this particular model has never had such problems anyway.

avatar
Yareli Gill

Poulan Pro is a nice snow thrower. It can handle heavy snow (up to a foot) without any problems. The electric start is really useful and the machine starts up easily every time I use it. The construction is strong, and I haven’t had any problems with the features. There’s plenty of power for wetter snow, too, and the controls are easy to use. This machine is heavy and hard to maneuver in small spaces, but I expected this.
